The Chicken Shoot does not involve live chickens, or even grouse “chickens”. It is all about having family fun shooting .22 rimfire at paper and reactive targets. All ages, all skill levels, all types of .22 rimfire firearms (legal, of course) are welcome to come and have fun. Sorry: .17 HMR and .22 magnum are too powerful for our targets – use .22 rimfire only at this event.
Targets are very variable, from actual .22 scale metallic silhouettes, to balloons, to bi-athlon metallic, to spinning gizmos and gongs. Clay birds (not thrown) are also used for instant gratification accuracy, particularly to more youthful or inexperienced shooters. Paper targets precisely record your groups. Ranges may vary from about 20 yds to 200 yds! “Equipment” shooters also welcome – this is not a competition except with yourself. Our outdoor range is covered from the weather, with solid benches to shoot from. Range Safety persons are always present during “Chicken Shooting”, for guidance and instruction.
