Fishing Forever and Family Fishing Weekend

Fishing Forever and Family Fishing Weekend

Again this year on Fathers’ Day weekend we will host a popular event at Cottonwood Lake which is at a beautiful Central Kootenay Regional District park.

On Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 10 am to 4 pm we will conduct Fishing Forever – a BCWF program designed to cater to those of any age who are handicapped in some way.  It could be as simple as impaired mobility.  Their caregivers are required to be present.

The emphasis shifts on Sunday, June 18 (same times) to the kids and their parents.

We expect 300+ bodies to appear that weekend.  Club members, and friends, can do their part by bringing a car top size boat with oars or electric motor (no gasoline outboards) and, to really enjoy the day, stay to captain the boat with our clients.

There is no charge to our participants or volunteers.  No fishing licence is required on this weekend (thanks to BC government)

Kootenay Lake Fisheries Recovery Update

Many folks around the lake are concerned about the fisheries decline on Kootenay Lake.  The following is a list of resources and links to get more informed on the action being taken by the Province and other partners to recover the Kootenay Lake fisheries.

Redfish 003On June 16th, 2016 90 people attended a public meeting in Balfour to receive an update on the Kootenay Lake Fisheries Action Plan.

Government Hunting Services Going Online

In April 2016, the Province will introduce a new online system that will improve the overall efficiency of hunter services. Initially the online service will be for Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) applications. In the future, the system will integrate a range of online services for hunters, including licensing.

Hunters will have 24-hour online access to hunting services from any computer with an internet connection and will be able to view and track their Limited Entry Hunting applications online.
To provide access to the new system, hunter numbers will be replaced with a new Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID).

Hunters with an existing hunter number will be assigned a FWID (which will include their old hunter number) and a Resident Hunting Credential. New hunters will need to register and apply for their FWID and Resident Hunting Credential.
