3D Archery Course Closure

Due to safety concerns the 3D course at the outdoor range will close permanently, effective September 7th 2022.  This is due to portions of the course being in the direct line of fire with the trap range.  A new safe course layout has been agreed upon for next spring.

Outdoor Range Clean Up – May 14 & 15

On Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15 the outdoor range will be closed from 9:00am to 3:00pm to allow for our annual spring clean up.

The focus will be target rebuild, and general clean up of grounds and range building.

Those of you who want to help please bring tools such as rakes, pruners, shovels, wheel barrows etc. Any spare 2×4’s and 1/2’ plywood would also be appreciated.

Glen will be serving up his BBQ hamburgers and hotdogs afterwards. We hope to see you there.

November 2021 Archery Update

Outdoor archery range targets have been taken down for the snow season and are being repaired this winter in preparation for the spring. The 3D course is also put away for the winter. The Indoor Archery range remains available to members with Covid protocol in place and times continue to be booked as per the archery calendar and contact info posted on each monthly newsletter sent out to members.

Sheep Hay Lift 2021

In the spirit of Community and Wildlife conservation, members of the Nelson District Rod & Gun Club, the West Kootenay Big Game Trophy Association, and the Salmo Valley ATV Club, joined forces on October 16, 2021 for the annual stocking of the Sheep Shed situated above the Salmo Creston Highway. A total of 60 bales of hay and 3700 pounds of pellets were transported to the feed site. The hay and pellets will be distributed to the sheep sometime in December through March 31, 2022.

Afterwards, the volunteers were treated to a BBQ lunch and refreshments courtesy of the NDRGC and Glen McKen.

A sincere thank you to Martech Electrical Systems Ltd who, once again, supported this worthwhile project by donating the use of a trailer to pick up the hay bales.

WILDLIFE IN BC NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT

From the Wild Sheep Society of BC:

“Both government and non-government wildlife experts continually tell us that changes to hunting regulations are not meaningful to change the trends in wildlife population, and that science and cultural knowledge are the most important tools they have access to.

Sound wildlife management is critical to survival of all species. Managing based on social pressures is not acceptable, and you cannot afford to let it happen.”
