Government Hunting Services Going Online

In April 2016, the Province will introduce a new online system that will improve the overall efficiency of hunter services. Initially the online service will be for Limited Entry Hunting (LEH) applications. In the future, the system will integrate a range of online services for hunters, including licensing.

Hunters will have 24-hour online access to hunting services from any computer with an internet connection and will be able to view and track their Limited Entry Hunting applications online.
To provide access to the new system, hunter numbers will be replaced with a new Fish and Wildlife ID (FWID).

Hunters with an existing hunter number will be assigned a FWID (which will include their old hunter number) and a Resident Hunting Credential. New hunters will need to register and apply for their FWID and Resident Hunting Credential.

Membership dues

Membership dues
Motion passed at the April 7th general meeting:
That, effective October 1, 2015, the annual membership dues for the Nelson District Rod & Gun Club be increased to:
Individual (and senior individual) $85.00
Family $110.00
Junior $30.00 Carried
Your membership is for the calendar year, January 1 to December 31.
Club members will have third-party liability insurance for their club and outdoor activities and for their ORVs and boats (a liability certificate will accompany your membership card).
If you have not renewed your membership by January 1st, then you will not be entitled to use our ranges or other club facilities; and you will not have liability insurance for your boat or ORVs, until you do send in your renewal application.
This year the membership renewal process is more complicated than in the past, as you are required to sign a waiver which will be sent to you after we receive your membership renewal application and dues. Please keep your receipt for dues if you apply at Nelson Farmers’ Supply, as you can use that receipt for entry into our ranges and other facilities until you receive your 2016 membership card.
Please be aware that you should not expect liability insurance instantly upon renewal. Further, we cannot guarantee that you will be covered for the fall hunting season if you renew during the second half of the year.
Since there has been a change in government you can expect to again need an ATT for movement of your restricted firearms. Exactly what the requirements will be is not yet known – but it is wise for you to take out club membership before you purchase your first handgun.

Quote without comment from the government’s platform:
The Government will introduce legislation that will provide greater support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault; that will get handguns and assault weapons off our streets; and that will legalize, regulate and restrict access to marijuana.

AGM

The Annual General Meeting will be held at our hall at 7:15 pm, Tuesday, January 12. At that meeting directors will be determined for 2016. The directors will then meet at 7:15 pm on Monday, January 18, to elect an executive and to select their portfolios. To become a director, or to vote at this meeting, it is necessary to have your membership (new or renewed).
