Clare Palmer 1941 – 2014

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clare Palmer on September 19, 2014. Clare passed peacefully with his family by his side. Born Richard Clare Palmer on October 2 1941, he was the eldest son of Walter and Naida Palmer. He leaves behind his beloved wife Patti and their four daughters (and families). Kimberly (Ed) Yee of Seattle, Washington and their three children Palmer, Elizabeth (Libby) and Owen; Lori (Russell) Stocks, of Nelson and their two boys Austin and Brady; Diana (Rene) Siguenza of Ottawa and their son Atticus; and Rebecca Friedberg of Philadelphia. He also leaves behind a stepmother Bea of Nelson, brother Alan of Blind Bay and sister Kathy (Bill) Wolsleger of Spruce Grove, Alberta, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He was preceded by his parents, infant twin sisters, a niece and sister in-law.

A prominent Nelson resident, Clare was;

– A mega supporter of all things Nelson

– Closely involved with the Rotary Club and proud of working to develop Lakeside Park.

– A long time Rod and Gun club member, very involved in the handgun and shotgun shooting sports with both the Nelson Rod & Gun Club and Silver City Trap Club.

– A Nelson Leaf fan

But the most treasured of all was his family and you knew that when he spoke of them.

The Celebration of Life will be held at the Prestige Lakeside Resort, 701 Lakeside Drive on Sunday, October 5 from 1-3

Columbia Basin Trust Initiative money for trap machine

CBTLOGO_Print_S_colColumbia Basin Trust gives money to each of the regional district areas and municipalities to be distributed to non-profit societies. Some councils vote on the distributions and others use a community oriented voting method, ie; “dot night”.

A club or organization fills a grant application and attends meetings to promote their cause. Our specialist for this particular job was Darren Marsh. He wrote the grant applications and made the presentations, Along with Darren, there were other members, Clare Palmer, Stephen White, Gerry Vliet and Jay Colley talking to municipal councils and the public about supporting votes.

We had a few glitches,” a learning curve”, but generally did very well for a first effort. $5,112.38 was received from CBT and put towards our new trap machine. The win-win is that it is installed and operating. 9:00 a.m. Saturday mornings and Thursday afternoons 4:30 p.m.—?.
Thanks to these people and all others involved.

Trophies Sidelined since 1992

We have received three club trophies that were originally handed out to competition winners; two for center fire hunting rifles and one for black powder rifles.

The Austin Moorcroft Trophy – Winner of .284 and larger caliber rifle, offhand and bench rest.

Women’s Trophy – Ladie’s winner of the Ethical Hunter Competition.

Black Powder Match – Hunting rifle. Details of competition unknown, but probably crossed sticks, not off of the bench.

There were several other trophies. A youth trophy and a .270 and smaller cal. (Wade trophy) were handed out.

We have video to look through that may give clues to other event awards.

These trophies should be shot for again, imo. How do you feel, as club members?
